It only looks that way to you. but if we don’t have sufficient orders from those retailers to warrant doing a new printing of a book like those, then that demand simply is not there, not to the extent that it would need to be. And there are typically plenty of other editions of similar material that can be sold within that window that are presently available to those same retailers. You need to understand that stocking $100.00 hardcovers represents a substantial financial risk on the part of a retailer, if they’re not guaranteed that the books are going to turn over in a very short period of time. That’s a lot of capital to tie up in a single product.
I look at this way. Omnibusses are great things to have, but like Tom said, they are expensive. As much as I would like the Infinite Crisis Omnibus, it’s over a $150 Canadian, and I just don’t have that in my budget. If said Omni (or collected) goes out of print, there’s this great service called Comixology (Marvel App included), where I get a lot of things digitally when they’re no longer in print.
There are always a way to get the books we love (legally please), and the Marvel digital store plus Comxiology are two great ways to do it.
